Here I am...

...in the beautiful city of Victoria on a very beautiful day. I got in just after noon so had time to do some walking around - the harbor, particularly. There is so much to see and do in the harbor area - my time here will go way too fast - especially since I will be in conference from 7 am to 5 pm for the next 3 days! I also met some other nurses from Saskatchewan (didn't know them well but they work for the same health region) and we did some shopping, sight seeing and had supper together.

Updates on hearts

Dad had his angiogram today and is booked for triple bypass surgery on Monday. Fortunately my employer has great benefits which include family leave for this kind of thing. When I called a coworker and asked if she could work Monday for me, she asked if I was worried. Well, yes and no. I am glad they found something they can fix - it is so frustrating to KNOW something is wrong and the Drs can't find anything. Bypass surgery is done quite regularly these days and is not the major surgery it once was - but it still is major surgery and it always seems worse when it involves the heart. I trust the doctors (Mom and Dad have both been happy with them altho I haven't met them yet) and I trust God to take care of Dad but a little part of me still wants to worry, especially when I think of a friend's father who had a stroke during heart surgery. Please pray for Dad - and for me that I will continue to trust God.

The news is positive for little Susanna. She also needs heart surgery which was expected but it sounds like they expect a good outcome. Her surgery is on Tuesday.

Just to make things a little more interesting, I am having a garage sale tomorrow. It's not ideal with me still not getting around real well and Dad in the hospital but it needs to be done. My 13 year old niece and her cousin will help me and my niece in law and 2 of her friends are doing some baking to sell as well. I am used to Dad being around to put up signs but this time I need to figure that out on my own. I'm starting to realize how much I depend on him. I have rented a hall for it this time so I don't need to worry about the weather - it has been nice but a bit cool.

Thank God for Friends

It's not a particularly good week. Dad has been in the hospital for the last week with heart problems - he's doing better now but is having his medication adjusted. 2 days ago on Sunday, I stumbled on the steps going into church and sprained my ankle so I am now on a forced "vacation". (I am thankful that I didn't break it!) Friends have been very kind. One friend stopped in this morning with flowers and hot chocolate mix for me and invited Mom and me for supper - it was a very enjoyble evening including setting a jigsaw puzzle together. Another friend called each of us (Mom and me) and invited us to spend the day with her working on a quilt she is making.

THANK GOD FOR FRIENDS!

A New Friend

A few weeks ago, I met a new co-worker. K is an amazing young woman who has gone through a huge loss - last October, she and her husband lost a full term little girl. Her life as blogged here is a great testimony of God's grace. While I was still on sick leave, the other staff had told her of my loss. On the first day we worked together, she encouraged me to talk about Bethany and the pain of my loss. I have appreciated all those of my friends and family who realize the pain is real and have "given me permission" to grieve. The difference with K is that she "gave me permission" to feel like a mother, albeit one who has lost my only child. Some have said my loss was like a miscarriage but I felt like it was more like losing a child at full term - K was the first to tell me she believed it was. It was great to talk to someone who has experienced a similar loss and truly understands the pain. I wouldn't wish that on anyone much less a couple like K and her husband K but since they did go through it, I am glad I was able to meet them. Thank you so much, K (even though I end up crying whenever we talk about our girls)! - and I am so happy for you and pray all will work out well this time.
